I Outline of Japanese School System
Prefectural governments are required to establish schools for special needs education. Based on the levels of impairments, special needs education classes are established in ordinary schools. Disabilities are divided into six categories: intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, health impairments, partially sighted, hard of hearing, and others. From the perspective of integration, special resource classrooms are provided for challenged children who originally attend ordinary classes, and educational visitation, in which teachers visit studentsf homes to instruct them, is arranged for severely challenged children who have difficulty attending normal schools.
