The phenomenon of enon-attendance at school or school absenteeismf in contemporary Japan has occurred for complex reasons. The reasons include relationships between teachers and students in school, academic pressures on students, problems which derive from the diversification of family, and studentsf mental and emotional problems. In Japanese society which has achieved economic affluence and maintains high educational enrollment and advancement rates, perhaps it is becoming harder for such students to find meaning in eattending school.f
