SEAMEO RIHED (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization, Center for Higher Education Development) Visits MEXT
On March 13, Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont, Center Director of SEAMEO RIHED, and Ms. Supansa Kajavong and Ms. Nutthamon Sitaprasertnand, Programme and Development officers of SEAMEO RIHED visited Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, accompanied by Dr. Nakao Nomura, Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Taiwan and Ms Nao Ishihara, CRICED Secretary Officer.
SEAMEO RIHED is one of the 26 regional centers of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and is responsible for research and development projects in the field of higher education in Southeast Asia.
In the discussion with Ms. Kuniko Takeda, Deputy Director, International Affairs Division, Higher Education Bureau (International Affairs) and other officials, the RIHED team reported on the AIMS program, one of the current student mobility programs in Southeast Asia and Japan, and discussed the future prospects of the program, as well as the University of Tsukuba's newly adopted “Multicultural Campus Project Toward Social Impact”.
“Multicultural Campus Project Toward Social Impact” was launched in FY2024 by MEXT with the aim of creating a virtuous circle in which the further internationalization of universities, dispatch of Japanese students, and acceptance and retention of excellent foreign students interact with each other through the establishment of systems for international joint study both in Japan and abroad. SEAMEO RIHED members also participated in the kick-off symposium of the said project to explore the possibility of ASEAN involvement in the internationalization process of Japanese universities.
